The 2018 International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGRASS) has been held in Valencia, Spain on July 22-27, 2018. The theme for IGARSS 2018 highlights the pressing demands for “Observing, Understanding and Forecasting the Dynamics of Our Planet”. More than 2,000 researchers from all over the world attended the meeting and shared the significant research progress and the latest scientific results in their respective fields.

Associate Professor Yanjun Su of the Digital Ecology Research Group, Institute of Botany, the Chinese Academy of Science, was invited to attend the event with their group members. During the conference, Associate Prof. Yanjun Su made a special talk titled ”The integration of UAV and backpack LIDAR systems for forest inventory”, which demonstrated the breakthroughs made by the research group in recent years on hardware, Lidar algorithm and software development. The talk received widespread attention of field experts and scholars. In addition, in this conference, Dr. Qin Ma delivered a wonderful presentation named “Individual tree level forest fire assessment using Bi-temporal LiDAR”, and Dr. Yumei Li shared the latest research achievements of the research group with domestic and foreign scholars in the form of posters.

By participating in this conference, the group got a clearer understanding of the latest international developments, which helped the team to further refine the research direction and further enhance the international influence.
