From January 9th to 10th, 2019, the “New Generation China Vegetation Mapping” provincial mapping workshop was successfully held at the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences. This seminar is based on the “Biodiversity and Ecological Security” project of the “Global Data Science Project” of the Strategic Pilot Science and Technology Project (Class A) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. This seminar invited more than 60 vegetation ecologists from 25 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in China to discuss vegetation mapping and cooperation, with a view to further promoting the mapping of the new generation of vegetation.

Vegetation mapping is a basic work of ecology and geography, and also an important basis for the development of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry as well as ecological construction. In recent decades, due to the intensification of climate change and human activities, the distribution and types of vegetation in China have changed greatly. Updating vegetation maps is of great significance for understanding the natural resources background and carrying out plant protection and utilization in China. This seminar is an important node of the new generation of vegetation mapping. It not only builds cooperation and sharing platforms for experts and scholars of vegetation ecologists form different provinces, but also lays a good foundation for the work of the development of a new generation of vegetation mapping in all provinces.
